I will soon be treaching free photography and photoshop classes here in the Boise, Idaho. These will range from very basic to intermediate to advanced. Since I have a very varied photographic background from Large and Medium Format, 35mm, to digital, I've printed using some of the most amazing photographic process in the history of photography like Platinum Printing, Carbon Printing, Van Dyke and more, and I'm also a Certified Adobe Instructor, I think I can make your time in class worthwhile.
I hope to have class listings and a schedule up soon.
FAQ
Why am I doing this?
I love teaching and I love photography and I love to share both.
How can I do it for free?
That's the hard part. I do hope that some students will find these of value and make donations that help cover materials and eventually let me get a projector (I'll be borrowing one at first). I don't want to exclude anyone that can't afford it. I've been to many paid workshops (both IT and Photography) costing well over a $1000 dollars each. While I loved my time, and sometimes actually got a good return for the money spent, things like this are usually out of the price range for most photographers.
What will I need to bring?
Willingness to learn.
Your camera (all types welcome).
Notepad and Pen
There may be some books you will want to purchase. I'll state what books I'll be using for any class.
What about Photoshop classes? Will I need Photoshop and a computer? What version of Photoshop?
The unfortunate answer is probably. While I'll have an extra computer or two, you'll probably need to bring your own, laptops are preferable. You can download from Adobe 60 day trial copies of Photoshop. I'll be using CS4, until CS5 is released. I use a PC, but a Mac is fine for classes.
Why Photoshop? Why not Lightroom, or Elements, Paintshop Pro, or some other software?
First, Photoshop is what I know. Second, no other software has its power, ability or is supported as well from the industry. Third, you will never find something you can't do in Photoshop (you might need a plug-in, but everything is doable.) A lot of the techniques you'll learn is transferable to other software.
